World Mental Health Day 2021‘ observation

Prochesta has celebrated the ‘World Mental Health Day’ 2021 at Prithimpassa Union Parishad premises on 10 October 2021. On the honor of the day the organization arranged mental health camp at the premises of the union with their assistance.

On the discussion meeting respective UP Chairman and members; civil society; doctor, journalists including the community radio ‘Pollikontho’; Prochesta staffs; mental health patients were attended the program. The Chairman said that Prochesta has good reputation to the areas they worked for their mankind works, supports to the people during their needs like; floods, COVID’19 pandemic etc. Prithimpassa Union Parishad will provide all sorts of support to Prochesta’s initiatives for the betterment of the people. Due to COVID’19 pandemic disables are more vulnerable to survive and lift normal live and becoming mental patients.  

Dr. Syed Enam (M Phil Psychiatry), Assistant Professor of Sylhet M A G Osmani Medical College Hospital said that he is feeling proud that as an mental health doctor he is going the provide treatment support today to the remote mental health patients with the support of Prochesta and the Local Government Institute (Union Parishad). A mass awareness is needed that the disabled mental health patients can be cured with proper treatment like other disease. We should take care of the patients and provide medicine and proper care giving. Surrounding society members can play vital role for their life with dignity. The Executive Director of Prochesta said that this is our motto to do better for the disables; the organization will always stay beside the disables and perform activities in supplementary to government program. The Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation-NOREC is providing support to organize this program.

The community radio ‘Pollikontho’ has announced the program before date and also broadcast news about the importance of the day. The journalist Abdul Kaddus said that the press club Kulaura is always in support of all good for the disables. The program was facilitated by the Director Program Md. Suruj Ali Sarkar, Prochesta. He added that ‘Ancjhol Foundation, Dhaka, conducted a survey of college and university students on mental health disease and found that due to COVID’19 pandemic a lot of students becoming mental health problem due frustration; some has gone to suicidal death. The alarming situation is that it is increasing day by day and Sylhet division is more vulnerable than other division of Bangladesh.

After the discussion meeting the doctor check the mental health patients with prescription and some medicine supports. The news of the program was published on radio and different newspapers those are attached below.
